On February 15, 2024, the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, together with the Primary Organization of NAS of the public association «Belarusian Union of Women» held a round table «Women in Economic Science», dedicated to the International Day of Women in Science.

As a compliment, Director Denis MUKHA introduced the history of the Institute and showed the participants the museum exhibition.

Women scientists who have gained high professional achievements in science and education took part in this event. Among the guests was Elena MORGUNOVA, First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus.

Chairman of the Primary Organization of NAS of the public association «Belarusian Union of Women» Yulia KOCHURKO congratulated all women involved in research and helping researchers on a young, but already popular holiday all over the world.

The round table began with a conversation about how the Institute has changed. Tatiana MIRONOVA worked for many years within the institute, including as Scientific Secretary, and shared her memories of the development of political economy and researchers who made a significant contribution to economic science.

Among the participants were colleagues who have worked closely with the Institute for many years. Valentina PINYAZIK, Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Labor Research Institute of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, shared the results of a gender study and focused on preparing a succession of scientists’ generations. Elena DAVYDENKO, professor of the Department of International Economic Relations of BSU, shared her experience of starting scientific activity and noted the importance of nurturing and preserving traditions in the scientific community.

Elena PRESNYAKOVA, Head of the Center of Innovation and Investment Policy at the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, spoke comprehensively and systematically about the representatives of the Institute of Economics.

Women are involved in science within the education system. Natalya PONOMAREVA, Head of the Department of «Economics and Management of Innovative Industrial Projects» of the Faculty of Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship of BNTU discussed the female face in educational science.

Economic science is multifaceted. Likewise, women, who are engaged in it, involve themselves in different activities.

Olga PASHKEVICH, Head of the Labor and Social Relations Sector of the Organization and Management Department of the Institute of System Researches in Agro-industrial Complex of NAS of Belarus, shared not only a description of the outstanding women successes in agricultural economics, but also the variety of activities in which female employees are involved on a voluntary basis.

At the end of the round table, the participants were briefed on the achievements of women in space. Irina KAZACHOK, leading specialist of the Aerospace Activities Department of the Space Research Agency of NAS of Belarus, shared her experience of working with Belarusian cosmonauts and girls who are going to master new facets of science.

This event played the role of an effective platform for discussing a wide range of issues related to the self-realization of women in science, ensuring gender equality, the combination of family and work by women scientists, government support for women’s research, and opportunities for improving the employment of women in science.
