On July 4, 2024, the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus hosted the International Round Table "80 Peaceful Years: Belarus Remembers", dedicated to the Independence Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
The following took part with reports: a guest from the Russian Federation - the Executive Director of the Historical Memory Foundation, as well as the Director of the Scientific and Practical Center of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Deputy Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, a representative of the Institute of History of NAS of Belarus.
The event was organized by the Sector of Legal Support for Socio-Economic Development of the Center of State Building and Law of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus.
Representatives of all structural divisions of the Institute of Economics, including young scientists, as well as an invited guest, a representative of the Agency for Space Research of NAS of Belarus Irina KAZACHOK, took part in the round table.
Director of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus Denis MUKHA addressed the participants of the round table with a welcoming speech.
In addition, Denis MUKHA presented the veteran of the Great Patriotic War Fyodor FESHCHENKO, a former employee of the Institute, with the Book of Memory of the Institute with a dedication.
The trade union of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus also joined the congratulations: Albina SIBIRSKAYA presented flowers to the participants and eyewitnesses of the Great Patriotic War.
Chairperson of the State Standardization Committee Elena MORGUNOVA addressed the participants of the International Round Table with a welcoming speech.
The chronicle of the Belarus liberation as part of the offensive operation "Bagration" was covered in the speech by Valery NADTACHAEV, a researcher at the Center of Military History of Belarus at the Institute of History of NAS of Belarus.
A veteran of the Great Patriotic War, a participant in the liberation operation "Bagration", a former employee of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus (period 1958-1964), Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Fyodor FESHCHENKO spoke about his glorious military past and everyday work.
He showed the participants of the round table a personal book of a Red Army soldier, which became his faithful companion throughout his military and post-war life.
Fyodor FESHCHENKO donated his author’s book "Dairy Industry of Belarus" to the fund of the Museum of the Institute of Economics.
The role of the 16th Lithuanian Rifle Division in the liberation of the BSSR from Nazi occupation was revealed by the Executive Director of the Foundation for the Promotion of Current Historical Research "Historical Memory" (RF) Natalia SELYUKINA.
A veteran of the Great Patriotic War, a medical orderly of the military hospital train Yadviga EROBKINA spoke about her difficult military and civilian life, famous relatives. Her sister Nina LIGOVICH died on the penultimate day of the Battle of Stalingrad, carrying 18 wounded soldiers from the battlefield.
The Deputy Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, Candidate of Historical Sciences Svyatoslav KULINOK dedicated his report to the post-war restoration of the Minsk city in 1944-1950.
An eyewitness of the Minsk liberation, Zoya YURKEVICH, shared her memories of life under occupation, as well as a little-known fact from 1947: typhus-infected second-hand clothes, donated as part of American humanitarian aid, which caused the death of her mother and other Minsk residents.
In his detailed report, the Director of the Scientific and Practical Center of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus Igor MOROZ revealed the anatomy of the myth of American aid to the BSSR in the post-war period.
He also noted the significant contribution of the Head of the Center of Human Development and Demography Anastasia BOBROVA in counting the victims of the Great Patriotic War and presented her with a letter of gratitude.
The Head of the Center of Innovation and Investment Policy of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Elena PRESNYAKOVA devoted her report to assessing the damage caused to the economy of the Belarusian SSR during the Great Patriotic War.

A prisoner of the Ozarichi concentration camp, Honored Teacher of the Republic of Belarus, laureate of the Republican competition "Woman of the Year", elder of the Minsk city Belarusian Union of Women Nadezhda LOS shared her memories of childhood behind the barbed wire of the concentration camp and the difficult path of personality development after this experience.
A vocal and choreographic congratulation "Blue Handkerchief" performed by the Chairman and representatives of the board of the Primary Organization of Belarusian Union of Women of NAS of Belarus Yulia KOCHURKO, Marina AKHREMCHIK and Anastasia BOBROVA became a real gift for all participants.
The joint performance of the song "Katyusha" by the young patriot Gordey BOBROV and Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus Andrei PILYUTIK created a special joy for the listeners and a festive atmosphere.
The event ended with a waltz with veterans and tea ceremony.
At the end of the event, Antonina TRIPUZOVA and Vladimir GRINKO presented gifts to Fyodor FESHCHENKO, Yadviga EROBKINA, Nadezhda LOS and Zoya YURKEVICH.
