On August 2, 2024, a round table on the topic “The Institute of Presidency as a Solid Foundation for the Socioeconomic Development of the Republic of Belarus” was held at the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus. The event was organized by the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus and the Institute of Sociology of NAS of Belarus. The round table was moderated by the Director of the Institute of Sociology of NAS of Belarus Nikolai MYSLIVETS.

Academician of NAS of Belarus, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanities and Arts of NAS of Belarus Alexander KOVALENYA addressed the participants of the event with a welcoming speech. The famous Belarusian scientist and historian emphasized the importance of the institution of presidency for ensuring national security and stability of Belarus, noting that this institution has become an integral part of our political system.

Senior researcher at the Center for Political Science of the Institute of Sociology Alexander MARKEVICH gave a report on the topic “The Institute of Presidency as a Solid Foundation for the Present and Future of Belarus”. The political scientist emphasized that the creation of the institute of presidency was a logical step in the development of Belarus after the collapse of the Soviet Union. From the expert’s point of view, the 1994 Constitution, which established the post of President, responded to the public demand for effective and personalized state power. This step, according to the political scientist, became the basis for sustainable socio-economic and political development of the country. The scientist also noted that thanks to the institute of presidency, Belarus was able to build an independent state that enjoys authority in the international arena. As a result, the country demonstrates sustainable socio-economic development, political stability and peace in a multinational society.

A thematic report on the economic achievements of the Republic of Belarus during the functioning of the presidency institution was made by Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Economic Sciences Vitaly PILUI. He emphasized the role of the Head of State in making wise and timely decisions that became the basis for the achievements of the national economy sectors.

The Head of the Center of Innovation and Investment Policy of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Elena PRESNYAKOVA reported on the development of science and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus during the 30-year period of the presidency institution in the Republic of Belarus.

Head of the Department of Regional Sociology of the Institute of Sociology Natalia BALICH drew attention to the key role of sociological surveys in assessing the effectiveness of state tasks’ implementation for the development of rural areas. The data obtained in the monitoring mode act as a “barometer” of public sentiment, form a feedback system between the population and local government bodies. This allows adjusting the actions of the authorities in accordance with the real needs of the population. During the report by Natalia BALICH, the participants of the round table were introduced to the results of long-term research conducted by the Institute of Sociology of NAS of Belarus, and the achievements and problematic issues of the modern Belarusian village development were noted.

Elizaveta GLUSHAKOVA, Junior Researcher at the Center for Political Science of the Institute of Sociology, made a presentation on the role of the presidency in the formation and implementation of state youth policy in the Republic of Belarus. The political scientist emphasized that active work with young people is carried out within the framework of state programs: expanded benefits for young people, special funds of the President, Olympiads, creative events. In addition, in the Republic of Belarus, young people as a social group are actively supported by the state, including active support from the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander LUKASHENKO.

Nina STOMA, Junior Researcher at the Center of Innovation and Investment Policy of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, devoted her presentation to the implementation of future projects as a guarantee of successful socio-economic development of the Republic of Belarus.

The issues raised in the reports aroused great interest and lively discussion among the participants of the event.
