On September 23, 2024, employees of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus took part in the seminar held by the Center for the Study of the World Economy (CIEM) of the Republic of Cuba in Havana remotely

On September 23, 2024, the Center for the Study of the World Economy (CIEM) (El Centro de Investigaciones de la Economía Mundial (CIEM), República de Cuba) in Havana, Republic of Cuba, held a scientific seminar “Assessing the Potential of Economic Relations between the Republic of Cuba and the Republic of Belarus. Summarising the interim results of the joint research project”.

The Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus and the Centre for the Study of World Economy (CIEM) of the Republic of Cuba are partners in joint research project “Economic Risks, Benefits and Prospects of Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Cuba under Sanctions and in the Greater Eurasia Framework” implemented by the Belarusian side within the BRFFR grant support programme. The head of the joint project on the Cuban side is Gladys C. Hernández PEDRASA, Head of the International Finance Department of the Centre for the Study of the World Economy (CIEM) of the Republic of Cuba, Doctor of Economic Sciences. The Belarusian side of the joint project is headed by the Head of the Centre for World Economy of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus - Tatiana VERTINSKAYA, Doctor of Economic Sciences.

The seminar was attended by a number of heads of state administration bodies, representatives of the diplomatic corps and interested scientific and educational organisations of the Republic of Cuba.

Mr Eduardo Martinez DIAZ, Minister of Science, Technology and Environment of the Republic of Cuba, made a welcoming speech to the participants of the workshop.

There were 3 reports in the form of presentations:

Mr Santiago Perez BENITES, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Belarus, presented a report on the current state of Belarusian-Cuban relations.

Ms Gladys C. Hernández PEDRASA, Head of the International Finance Department of the Centre for the Study of World Economy (CIEM) of the Republic of Cuba, Doctor of Economic Sciences, made a report on the assessment of prospects for the development of Belarusian-Cuban foreign economic relations.

Head of the Centre of World Economy of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus - Tatyana VERTINSKAYA, Doctor of Economic Sciences, took part in the seminar remotely, presenting a video report in Russian and Spanish “Results of the project “Economic Risks, Benefits and Prospects of Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Cuba under Sanctions and in the Greater Eurasia Framework” (Resultados del proyecto “Riesgos económicos, beneficios y perspectivas de la cooperación comercial y económica entre la República de Bielorrusia y la República de Cuba bajo sanciones y en el formato ”Gran Eurasia’).

During the seminar, Cuban specialists exchanged views on the state of the Belarusian-Cuban trade and economic relations and their prospects for further development.
