On November 15, 2024, within the framework of the International Research-to-Practice Conference “Strategy of Economic Development of Belarus: Challenges, Instruments and Prospects”, Section 6 “Social and Environmental Problems of Economic Development” was held.
The session was organised by the Centre of Human Development and Demography of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus.
The programme of the session brought together 30 participants from different regions, including representatives of the Russian Federation (St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg), the Republic of Latvia (Riga), the Republic of Uzbekistan (Tashkent) and the Republic of Belarus (Gomel, Minsk, Mogilev).
The circle of participants included representatives of research organisations, higher education institutions and business, including Belarusian, Russian and Chinese young scientists. In fact, the session acted as an international platform for the exchange of views and experience, and promoted the involvement of young researchers in topical discussions.
Nadezhda BATOVA, Acting Head of the Centre of Human Development and Demography, Head of the Sector of Environmental and Economic Research, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.
During the session, reports by highly qualified scientists covering a wide range of issues related to socio-demographic policy, labour and migration processes, as well as sustainable environmentally-oriented development were heard. The presentations were diverse and topical. It contributed to an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of existing problems.
At the session the following speakers took the floor:
Alexey SHMATKO, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor (Institute for Regional Economic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences), with a report on “Sustainable development of scientific organisations: science in educational programmes and international partnership”;
Olga BURMATOVA, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor (Institute of Economics and Industrial Production Organisation of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk), with the report on “Strategic aspects of ecological development of the region”;
Natalia MILKOTA, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences (Research Institute of Labour of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Minsk), with a report on “Development of social participation of elderly people as a priority area of action in the conditions of population ageing”;
Veronika LEONOVA, Victor GARANIN, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor (CJSC “String Technologies”, Minsk), with a report on “Ecological problems of economic development of mankind and ways of their solution”;
Kirill PILETSKY (Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, Minsk) with the report on “Analysis of factors influencing staff turnover in the Republic of Belarus”;
Victor VOLKOV (Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education North-West Institute of Management of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, St. Petersburg) with a report on “Economic, social and environmental significance of the development of aluminium reserves at the Zaozernoye deposit in the Republic of Belarus”;
Victoria RACHKEVICH Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, Minsk) with a report on “Analysing the remote work market in Belarus”;
Victoria PETROVSKAYA (Belarusian National Technical University, Minsk) with a report on “Environmental threats and resource constraints as a limiting factor of sustainable industrial development”;
Yuting ZHANG (Belarusian State University, Minsk) with a report on “Trade liberalisation, environmental pollution and health”.
The reports provoked an active scientific discussion, during which the participants exchanged opinions and proposals for the development of new ideas and approaches to the study of social and environmental aspects of economic development. The participants discussed the conclusions drawn from the presentations and noted the significance of the interdisciplinary approach, which allows for a fuller and deeper understanding of contemporary sustainable development issues.
Based on the discussion, recommendations for further development of research in the field of socio-economic and environmental issues were formulated, and priority areas requiring additional attention from both the scientific community, management structures and the business community were identified.
Section 6 confirmed the importance of interdisciplinary research and the need for interaction between scientists from different countries to effectively address the complex problems of sustainable development in the context of modern challenges and threats. The grounded promising directions and mechanisms for the implementation of new ideas proposed by the participants of the session will be able to contribute to the strategy of economic development of Belarus and its partner countries.
