On May 20, 2025, the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus acted as a partner of the business conference “Industrial Complex of the Republic of Belarus: Export, Import Independence, Effective Management”. The conference was devoted to the development of the Belarusian industry, strengthening technological independence, developing export potential, introducing innovations and improving the efficiency of enterprise management. The large-scale event brought together over 250 participants, more than 35 speakers and experts: representatives of the industrial sector, government bodies, business and expert communities.

At the plenary session “Strategic Priorities of the Industry of Belarus”, the Director of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus Denis MUKHA delivered a welcoming speech. He noted that close interaction between industrial and scientific organizations will ensure the creation of innovations and key developments that will allow us to survive in the competitive environment. An important issue remains ensuring import independence in terms of the domestic industry ability to withstand external challenges and threats. The results obtained during the discussions at the conference will contribute to the exports growth, increase in import independence, and the implementation of effective management.

Elena PRESNYAKOVA, Head of the Center of Innovation and Investment Policy of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, made a report at the plenary session on the topic “Assessment of the industrial enterprises’ readiness to implement new and advanced production technologies in the context of ensuring technological sovereignty”. The relevance of the report is due to the need to ensure the technological sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus in the face of external challenges. In 2024, the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus conducted a survey of 100 industrial enterprises of the Republic of Belarus. The survey was conducted in such areas as the implementation of scientific research and development, innovative activity at enterprises; strategies of respondents in the context of import substitution and personnel shortage; prevalence and problems in the production implementation of digital technologies. The results of the survey were presented by the speaker at the conference.

A panel discussion entitled “Belarusian Industry in Global Markets: Problems, Solutions, Opportunities” was held with the participation of Elena PRESNYAKOVA, a member of the conference Program Committee. The panel discussion answered the following questions:

What are the priority areas for diversifying export markets for Belarusian industrial enterprises in the context of limited access to Western markets?

What measures need to be taken to increase the competitiveness of Belarusian products in the international market in the context of global economic changes?

What mechanisms and tools can ensure the creation and development of high-tech industries?

Representatives of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research, the Bellegprom concern, BELGEE CJSC, and BELAZ OJSC, the management company of the BELAZ-HOLDING, also took part in the discussion.

The business conference included 4 sections:

“Foreign Economic Activity and Export – Trends, Risks, Rules”;

“Import Independence and Technological Sovereignty – the Key to Industrial Sustainability”;

“Logistics, finance, marketing: what hinders and what helps Belarusian exports?”;

“Efficient management and lean manufacturing: tools for increasing competitiveness”.

The staff of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus listened with great interest to the reports of representatives of the RUE “National Center for Marketing and Price Study”, JSC “Russian Export Center”, OJSC “Agency for Foreign Economic Activity”, SSI “Physical and Technical Institute of NAS of Belarus”, SSI “United Institute of Mechanical Engineering of NAS of Belarus”, CJSC “Industrial Park Development Company”, EI “Vitebsk State Technological University”, OJSC “Mogilevliftmash”, OJSC “Minsk Watch Plant”, ALC “YUKOLA-INFO-Brest” and others.

Specialists and experts comprehensively covered issues of international cooperation with foreign countries, prospects for the implementation of modern production systems, optimization of production capacities and automation, etc.
