On June 24-26, 2025, scientists from the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus took part in the VIII International Symposium on Regional Economics (REC-2025) “Spatial Development Strategies: Challenges and Prospects” (Yekaterinburg, Russia). The event was organized by the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of RAS. Partners and co-organizers of the symposium: Ural Federal University, Ural State University of Economics, Ural Branch of RAS, Department of Social Sciences of RAS.

The key event of the symposium was the plenary session on the topic: “Spatial Development Strategies: Challenges and Prospects” opened by the Director of the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of RAS, Doctor of Economic Sciences Yulia LAVRIKOVA.

The Deputy Chairman of the Ural Branch of RAS Igor MANZHUROV addressed the conference participants with a welcoming speech, noting that the symposium would become a significant milestone in the life of the scientific community, create excellent opportunities for exchanging experience and contribute to the economic science promotion and the attraction of talented youth.

The plenary session brought together leading Russian, Belarusian experts, as well as specialists from other countries, who presented a comprehensive analysis of modern trends and strategic guidelines for spatial development.

The first to speak was Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Alexander GOTOVSKY with a report on the topic: “Ensuring Economic Growth in the Context of Developing Global and Regional Value Chains”.

Elena PRESNYAKOVA, Head of the Center of Innovation and Investment Policy at the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor presented a report on the topic: “Formation and Implementation of Industrial Policy of the Union State: Regional Aspect”.

Head of the Center for Federal Relations and Regional Development at the Institute of Economics of RAS, Doctor of Economic Sciences Evgeny BUKHVALD,

Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Economic Forecasting of RAS, Doctor of Economic Sciences Olga KUZNETSOVA,

Deputy Director of the Institute of Regional Economics and Interbudgetary Relations of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Candidate of Economic Sciences Olga PIVOVAROVA.

Participant from Kazakhstan Rashid RUZANOV, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Leading Researcher at the Institute of Economics of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation at “Q” University, presented a report on the topic: “Regional Asymmetries in the Economy and Their Role in Income Differentiation”.

Scientific developments at the plenary session were presented by scientists from the People’s Republic of China: Xionghe Qin, PhD, associate professor at Hefei University of Technology; Fan Fei, PhD, professor of Wuhan University; Yanfang Sang, PhD, professor of Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Scientists from the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus took an active part in the work of the section “Theoretical Foundations of Spatial Development Strategy”. The moderator was Victoria AKBERDINA, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Corresponding Member of RAS (Institute of Economics, Ural Branch of RAS).

The section was attended by 13 speakers in person and online. The greatest interest was generated by the reports of such scientists as Candidate of Economic Sciences Oksana BUTORINA, Doctor of Economic Sciences Elena BAZUEVA (Perm State National Research University) (“Megacyclic transformational development of complex regional economic systems: problem statement”), Doctor of Economic Sciences Yulia TOMASHEVSKAYA (Astrakhan State University named after V.N. Tatishchev) (“Cluster approach as a tool for spatial development of territories”), Doctor of Economic Sciences Evgeny DYATEL (Institute of Economics, Ural Branch of RAS) (“Space-time continuum of economic systems: history, methodology, application boundaries”), Candidate of Economic Sciences Ivan KAMENEV (Federal Research Center “Computer Science and Control” of RAS, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba) (“On the Issue of Factors of Intensive Regional Scientific and Technological Development”) and others.

During the VIII International Symposium on Regional Economics (REC-2025), scientists from the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus presented monographs published in cooperation with the Publishing House “Belaruskaya navuka” to Russian and foreign participants, as well as a collection of scientific articles “Bulletin of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus”. It will contribute to strengthening academic ties and enhancing interaction between scientific organizations.
