On February 14, 2026, the team from the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus took part in the 2026 Winter Sports and Athletic Contest among employees of NAS of Belarus organizations.
The Sports and Athletic Contest was officially opened by Vladimir KARANIK, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, who wished all 52 teams a fair and uncompromising fight, good results, and a great mood.
Participants competed in 7 events, 3 of which involved the entire team.
The Institute’s team achieved its best result in cross-country skiing, the first event that opened the Sports and Athletic Contest, where our captain, Alexander CEDRIK, and Eghine BABOYAN competed. Our team finished 6th.
Of the 7 Contest events, cross-country skiing is considered a sporting event by the international classification, while the others are considered physical education (amateur) competitions. It was in cross-country skiing that the Institute team earned the maximum number of points, leaving behind one of the prize winners and most of the teams that finished higher in all distances.
Our team also made it into the top 10 in 2 other events – the relay race and the “Shark Jumpers” competition, where Tatyana SAVLUK and Olgerd YAKUBOVSKY competed alongside our skiers. In these events, the team took 7th place, scoring 45 points each.
It was in the team events that true team spirit, cohesion, and mutual support among all 4 team members were evident.
Our team performed slightly worse in the remaining competitions, largely due to subjective factors.
Team captain Alexander CEDRIK participated in 6 of the 7 competitions.
As a result, the team from the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus placed 17th among 52 teams from NAS organizations participating in the 2026 Winter Sports and Athletic Contest, scoring 218 points in all competitions. This result is significantly better than the 39th place they took at the 2025 Summer Sports and Athletic Contest and slightly behind their 13th place at the 2025 Winter Sports and Athletic Contest.
Undoubtedly, the team’s overall performance should motivate them to improve in the future. And, of course, the support shown by their loyal fans and their main motivator, Denis MUKHA, Director of the Institute, who has personally supported the team members at the Children’s Health Camp “Foton” sports ground during recent Sports and Athletic Contests, was very significant.
