On May 7–9, 2026, employees of the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus took part in a series of events dedicated to Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War.
On May 7, 2026, a group of employees, led by Denis MUKHA, Director of the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, laid flowers at two mass graves in a park on Tolbukhin Street in Minsk.
Opening the event, Denis MUKHA, Director of the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, on behalf of those present and all Belarusian citizens, expressed gratitude to the 10,000 Soviet defenders (military personnel, partisans, underground fighters, and civilians) who died in 1941–1944 in the fight against the Nazi invaders and their collaborators, as well as those who died from wounds and disease in Minsk and suburban villages during the occupation.
The flower-laying ceremony in the park on Tolbukhin Street in Minsk then continued at the monument, where the names of 4 Soviet tank crewmen are inscribed alongside symbolic stars: Guard Junior Lieutenant Zenkevich, the crew commander; Guard Sergeants Sitnikov and Kashkinov; and Guard Private Volynkin.
Vitaly PILUI, Deputy Director for Research and Innovation at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Economic Sciences, expressed admiration on behalf of all those present for the heroic deed accomplished by the tank crewmen buried at this site: they, as part of a reinforced tank platoon, conducted a reconnaissance mission on July 3, 1944, and were among the first to break through enemy fire to Minsk from the Uruchye region. In an unequal battle, Guards Junior Lieutenant Zenkevich’s crew perished near Chelyuskintsev Park, where they were reburied in 1947 at the site where their monument now stands.
On the same day, May 7, 2026, Marina LEBEDEVICH, a researcher at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, along with members of the Bureau of the Council of Young Scientists of the NAS of Belarus, took part in the patriotic event “Lilac of Victory – Garden of Peace”, dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory, held at the Central Botanical Garden of the NAS of Belarus. Together with the children of Kindergarten No. 62 of the NAS of Belarus, the participants expressed their respect for the heroism of the older generation, who defended peace in Belarus by defeating fascism.
Also, on May 9, staff members of the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus actively participated in the events organized in Minsk to commemorate the Great Victory Day, including attending the festive fireworks.
The people’s memory of the Heroes’ Feat will live on for centuries!
