On May 28, 2026, a roundtable discussion on “Tourism Development in the Republic of Belarus as a Priority Area of Socioeconomic Policy” was held at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus. It was organized by the Department of Service Sector Economy.

The event was opened by Vitaly PILUI, Deputy Director for Research and Innovation at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Economic Sciences. He drew attention to the importance of the tourism industry for the country’s economy, emphasizing that tourism development is included among the key priorities of the current five-year plan.

Natalia MOROZOVA, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, introduced the participants of the meeting and delivered a report on “The Status and Directions of Tourism Research by the Department of Service Sector Economy of the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus”, outlining possible areas of collaboration with government agencies.

Next, Dmitry MOROZOV, Candidate of Historic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of International Tourism and Hospitality at BSU, delivered a presentation titled “The Practice of Developing a Tourism Product for Different Markets”. He discussed in detail approaches to adapting tourism products to the requirements of different countries and cultures, emphasizing the importance of flexibility in pricing, promotion, and service packaging.

Anna VOSHCHINCHUK, Deputy Head of the Domestic Tourism Development and Service Quality Department at the National Tourism Agency, analyzed global changes in consumer behavior in the tourism industry in her report “New Trends in Tourism Development”.

Alexander KOPANEV, Director of the Republican Union of Tourism Organizations, in his report “Formation of an Effective Mechanism for the Tourism Industry”, noted the challenges faced by travel companies in developing group tourism offers, including in terms of pricing for international transportation services.

Anna YANUSHKEVICH, Head of the Department of International Cooperation and Educational Services Export at the State Unitary Enterprise “Center for International Relations” of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, spoke about the Center’s activities in developing educational tourism in the Republic of Belarus.

Natalia PAVLOVA, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Management and Economics at the Higher School of the Republican Institute of Higher Education, continued the topic of educational tourism. In her report “On the Development of Educational Tourism in the Republic of Belarus”, she presented the results of a study on the readiness of Belarusian universities to host tourist groups. In her opinion, educational tourism could become a driver for regions with a high concentration of universities.

Oksana EZHEL, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Economics and Management of the Tourism Industry at BSEU, emphasized the balance between economic benefits, the environment, and social responsibility in her report “Prospects for Sustainable Tourism Development in the Republic of Belarus in the Context of Global Challenges”.

Victoria MALERONOK, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics and Management of the Tourism Industry at BSEU, discussed the role of the cluster approach in her report, “Tourism Clusters of the Republic of Belarus as a Tool for Increasing Exports in the Common EAEU Market”. She argued that uniting tour operators, hotels, transport providers, and tourist attractions into regional clusters allows for the creation of competitive end-to-end routes and more effective promotion of national tourism products.

A joint report, “Transformation of Belarusian Tourism Preferences: New Challenges and Opportunities for the Development of Domestic and Inbound Tourism”, was presented by Olga TOLKACH, Director of the GalioTour Travel Agency and Senior Lecturer at BSEU, and Anastasia BUNAS, Senior Lecturer at the same Department. Drawing on survey data, they demonstrated how the profile of the domestic tourist has changed.

Elena YANKEVICH, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Information Technology and Business Management at VSU named after P.M. Masherov, presented a report titled “Managing Tourism Development in the Regions of Belarus: Assessing Socioeconomic Results Based on the BSC Model”. She proposed a balanced scorecard (BSC) as a tool for objectively assessing the effectiveness of regional tourism strategies.

After each presentation, roundtable participants posed questions to the speakers, exchanged opinions on the issues raised, and proposed their own approaches to addressing them. During the discussion, areas for further joint research were identified.
