On July 12,
young scientists of the Institute of Economics took part in archaeological
excavations on the banks of the Menka River, where an ancient settlement and
the remains of fortifications were found. According to the assumption of
scientists, it was here that prehistoric Minsk was located.
Last year,
archaeologists relied on searches in this area and did not fail: only this
year, during an incomplete archaeological season, interesting artifacts were
found: arrowheads, small clay pots, fragments of ceramic products and jewelry,
knives, coins, ancient trade seals etc.
The
significance of the study of this place was emphasized by the Deputy Prime
Minister of the Republic of Belarus Igor PETRISHENKO: «In September last year,
when the Prime Minister visited the archaeological complex, certain artifacts
were brought to us for review from the storage facilities of the National
Academy of Sciences. But in a short period of time, many artifacts made of
clay, metal, etc. were founded here, and the archaeological season is still
ongoing. I think there are many new discoveries ahead».
Scientists,
students of historical faculties of higher educational institutions, volunteers
are involved in the excavations.
Young
scientists of the Institute of Economics also participated as volunteers:
researcher Anna
AKSENEVICH;
junior
researcher Julia VITYAZ;
junior
researcher Darya EFIMCHENKO;
junior
researcher Nadezhda KLEVANSKAYA;
researcher
Marina LEBEDEVICH;
researcher
Alexander CEDRIK;
junior
researcher Sabina SHEVCHENKO;
junior
researcher Olgerd YAKUBOVSKY.
The results
of excavations by young scientists of the Institute of Economics: a spindle,
fragments of ceramics, fragments of the components of a stone mill (presumably
the 11th century) made a small contribution to the study of this historical
site.
As a result
of the excavations, young scientists of the Institute talked with famous
historians, got acquainted with one of the versions of the origin of Minsk,
worked in a team, which helped to strengthen the corporate spirit.
Academician-Secretary
of the Department of Humanities and Arts of the National Academy of Sciences of
Belarus Alexander KOVALENYA noted the benefits of participating in
archaeological excavations: «This is the experience of working on a monument
not only of the republican, but also of the all-European level. This is the
place where our younger generation forms their civic and patriotic qualities,
their civic convictions. This is very important».
