Founded in March 1931 under the guidance of The Belarusian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Economics of the NASB is the leading economic research center of Belarus. For more than 90 years, the Institute has been conducting fundamental and applied scientific research on topical issues of the national and global economy, revealing fundamentally new ways of scientific and technological progress.
The Institute unites highly-skilled economists of different specialties. Its scientific staff includes about 100 researchers with more than 40 Doctors and Candidates of Sciences (equivalent to Ph.D.) among them. The total number of employees, including support and maintenance personnel, is more than 150 people.
The rich accumulated experience and high reputation allow the Institute to be involved in developing practical recommendations for the Belarusian government bodies on various practical issues of socio-economic policies. The Institute carries out an expertise of drafts of economic laws and regulations and provides advisory support for major scientific, technological and socio-economic development programs.
The Institute’s area of activity includes international cooperation with foreign scientific institutions on issues of economic science, generalization and practical use of the achievements of global economic thought. Within the walls of the Institute, international scientific conferences and seminars are regularly held, major scientific publications are being prepared on topical issues of socio-economic development.
