On June 14-15, 2022, the Director and staff of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus took part in the International Parliamentary Conference «Historical Memory: A Great Victory Gained by Unity»

On June 14-15, 2022, the International Parliamentary Conference «Historical Memory: A Great Victory Gained by Unity» was held in Minsk.

The main goals of the International Parliamentary Conference are to unite the efforts of the international community to protect historical memory, exchange experience in the field of legislative regulation of the issues of preventing the rehabilitation of Nazism, the glorification of Nazi criminals and their allies, strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation within the CIS to counter the falsification of historical truth and memory of the events of World War II and the Great Patriotic War.

The event was attended by parliamentarians from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, representatives of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of Belarus and Russia, the General Prosecutor’s Office, other government bodies, scientific and expert communities.

Director of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus Vasili HURSKY took part in the work of the Parliamentary Conference.

Five thematic sections worked at the conference: «The Great Patriotic War in modern historiography», «The sacred duty of the living», «Crimes without limitation period», «Historical memory. A connecting thread of generations», «Great Victory in public media discourse».

The section «The Great Patriotic War in modern historiography» was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Professional scientists in the field of military history, lawyers, defense officials, historians, sociologists, academic scientists and education specialists from Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, representatives of the diplomatic bodies acted as speakers at the section.

In his welcoming speech Vladimir GUSAKOV, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, stressed that Belarusian scientists oppose irrefutable facts to attempts to rewrite the history of the Great Patriotic War.

The conference participants considered a number of underexplored topics, including the events of the tragic summer of 1941 on the territory of Belarus, new data on the participation in the battles for Belarus during the Great Patriotic War of the USSR former republics’ natives.

A presentation of the significant for the Belarusian society and the country book, prepared at the Institute of History of NAS of Belarus within the framework of the unlimited nationwide action «Folk Chronicle of the Great Patriotic War: Let’s Recall Everyone!» announced by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, took place at the conference.

The book is the result of a republican campaign to collect preserved memories, documents, photographs of participants in the events of the Great Patriotic War. Everyone could send them to the Institute of History of NAS, where work was carried out to systematize and scientifically analyze the information received.

Employees of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus also took part in the work of this section.

On June 15, 2022, the conference ended with a plenary session in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.

At the plenary meeting on June 15, 2022, the FINAL RESOLUTION was adopted.

The participants of the conference urged to sacredly honor the memory of those who died in the struggle against Nazism, to condemn any justification of the Nazi movement, and also appealed to the peoples and parliaments of the countries of the world with a call to actively impede the activities to revive the ideology of Nazism and recognize as unacceptable attempts to falsify history and revise the results of World War II.
