For reference:

April 11 is the International Day for the Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Camps. It was on this day in 1945 that 20,000 prisoners of the Buchenwald camp rebelled and broke free.

The Trostenets Memorial Complex with a 10-meter central monument «Gates of Memory» was opened on June 22, 2015 on the site of the concentration camp of the same name, which operated during the Great Patriotic War.

On June 8, 2014, President of Belarus Alexander LUKASHENKO, taking part in the ceremony of laying a memorial capsule at the site of the Trostenets Ьemorial Сomplex, stressed that the Trostenets memorial should become an object of pan-European significance. «In 1944, the troops liberating Belarus from the Nazi invaders found the ashes from the stoves that had not yet cooled down and were struck by the inhuman crimes that had been going on for several years here in Trostenets. On the territory of more than a hundred hectares, the Nazis created a real factory of death. Behind the barbed wire, our partisans and underground fighters, prisoners of war, civilians were subjected to brutal abuse and exterminated. Tens of thousands of Jews were driven here by the Nazis from the Minsk ghetto and brought in trains from Western European countries», the Head of State noted.
