June 22, 2023 in Belarus is the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people. More than 1.3 million Belarusians and natives of Belarus fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Our country lost every third inhabitant the memory of them will live forever. Belarusians are one of the most affected nations as a result of the war. Human losses amounted to 2.4 million people. BELARUS REMEMBERS ALL HEROES AND INNOCENT VICTIMS OF THE WAR. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko sent an appeal to his compatriots. «Today the whole Belarus remembers the tragic events of June 22, 1941. Early in the morning, the war treacherously invaded our home, mercilessly destroying destinies, families, cities and villages. For more than 3 years, the Belarusian land literally groaned from the atrocities of the Nazis. Every third inhabitant of the country perished in the devastating fire of the war. Inhuman cruelty did not break the will of our people. The defense of their native land rallied the entire civilian population of the republic in general resistance to fascism. Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers were subjected to torture and terror, but retained their honor and dignity. After decades of prosperous life, a situation has arisen again when peacetime line is about to break. Another wrong step of cynical Western politicians may be the last for most of humanity. Knowing firsthand about the horrors of war and the cost of victory, the Belarusian people preserve the historical truth, strengthen state sovereignty and the unity of the nation in the name of peace in their native land», the Head of State said. On the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people, commemorative events are held throughout the country, including the city-wide action «Youth of Minsk Remembers» a flower-laying ceremony at memorial signs, obelisks and burial places of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people. Representatives of the Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus, including the trade union committee and the Council of Young Scientists, honored the memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War and laid flowers at the Eternal Flame at the Victory Monument.
